The incident took place in Stratford around 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 29 at the Esporta Fitness located at the 411 Barnum Avenue Cutoff.
According to Capt. Frank Eannotti of the Stratford Police, officers responded to the gym for a disturbance call.
During the incident, one of the people involved, Emmanuel Rivera, age 21, of Bridgeport pulled a firearm and threatened the other in the gym, Eannotti said.
Rivera was immediately taken into custody as he attempted to leave the area, police said.
Eannotti said the second suspect, Khyree Brown, age 21, also of Bridgeport, took the firearm and fled as officers arrived on the scene.
He was later taken into custody at the Raybestos Property adjacent to Frog Pond Lane, police said.
The firearm was located on the property where Brown was arrested. The recovered weapon was a Glock pistol with the serial numbers removed.
Rivera was charged with:
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Altering a firearm
- Violation of conditions of release
- Interfering with an officer
- Reckless endangerment
- Breach of peace
He is being held on a $150,000 bond.
Brown was charged with:
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Altering a firearm
- Interfering with an officer
- Criminal trespass
He is being held on a $25,000 bond.
